Biography
Thomas Chippenham II may have been the son of Thomas I of Hereford, and should not be confused with the son of Henry Chippenham of the same name, who was aged only 30 or so in 1451 at the time of Henry’s death. When first returned to Parliament Thomas was holding office as mayor of Hereford. In 1426 his fellow MP for the city was Nicholas Chippenham, possibly his brother. He witnessed local deeds in the early 1430s. Thomas appeared on the list of Herefordshire notables who were to take the general oath of 1434 that they would not assist any persons disturbing the peace. He is last heard of in January 1437, when attending the parliamentary election held in the guildhall at Hereford.2
