Biography

Edward’s kinsman, John Leante, sat for Shaftesbury in the second Parliament of 1383. Although he himself was twice mayor of Shaftesbury, twice a royal commissioner for the collection of parliamentary subsidies in Dorset, and on several occasions a witness to local deeds,2 no personal details about his family or means of livelihood have been discovered.
