Biography

Capell’s return for Boston is explained by an entry in the minute book of the corporation under 1 Oct. 1601:

Henry Capell, at the suit of Mr. Roger Manners [I] esquire, is elected ... upon condition that he shall come to be made a freeman of the borough before Friday next.

This condition was fulfilled on 9 Oct. Capell’s father, a friend of Sir Robert Cecil, was an executor of Manners’s will in 1607.

Capell died intestate and v.p. at Little Hadham on 29 Apr. 1622 and was buried at Rayne. He left as his heir a son Arthur, aged 18. Administration of his goods was granted to his widow on 8 May 1622.
