Biography

After his father’s death, Coningsby became the ward of his grandfather, a judge, who in turn died while Coningsby himself was still under age. Thus he was not granted livery of his extensive lands until May 1537. About five years later he came into his mother’s Worcestershire property. He retained his office of gentleman pensioner throughout Mary’s reign, but was excused attendance at court, and he was not a member of her later Parliaments.

In 1559 he returned to the House of Commons, and died 4 Apr. 1559, a month before Parliament ended. No mention of a by-election has been found. His will, drawn up in March 1559, was proved in October that year.
