Biography

Eden’s elder brother was born about 1554, which might be thought to put Eden’s own birth about 1536. But he was still studying law when his father died in 1568. He executed his mother’s will in 1572, and sat for Sudbury throughout the 1572 Parliament without being mentioned in the known surviving records of the House. A Richard Eden was buried at All Saints, Sudbury in January 1637/8, surely too late to have been the 1572 MP. Another namesake, the translator, was in France 1570-3 and died in 1576.
