Biography

Honing was first returned to Parliament for Dunwich as a local gentleman related to the Wingfields. He inherited and purchased property in and around Eye, where his father was buried, and in 1579 was living on a recently acquired manor at Darsham, where he built a new house. In 1598 he obtained the lease of the manor of Eye itself. Although he is not mentioned by name in the journals of the House, he may have attended a committee in 1597 concerning land reclamation (3 Dec.), to which the burgesses of Eye were appointed. He was buried at Eye in 1609, his heir being his only son, Wingfield Honing, aged about 19.
