Biography

Dalston belonged to a junior branch of an ancient Westmorland family, connected with the Lowthers. When he was an infant his father died, appointing the widow of John Lowther, M.P., 1st Viscount Lonsdale, to be one of his trustees, who were charged with his custody and tuition.2 In 1741 he stood unsuccessfully for the county, for which his father had been narrowly defeated in 1701. At the next general election he was returned for it unopposed, classed by the ministry as a supporter. Re-elected without a contest in 1754, he died at Bath, 25 May 1759.
