Biography

Norton Powlett was returned for Winchester in January 1730 on the interest of Charles Powlett, 3rd Duke of Bolton, after the death of the Duke’s uncle, Lord William Powlett. He voted against the Administration on the Hessians in 1730 but with them on the army in 1732. He did not follow the Duke into opposition in 1733, when he voted for the excise bill, abstaining from the division on the repeal of the Septennial Act in 1734. Not standing again, he died 14 Mar. 1759.
