Biography

Twisden’s family had purchased Bradbourne in 1656 and had represented Maidstone and Rochester in Parliament. While travelling in France with his father in 1698 he is said to have visited and kissed the hand of James II’s son. On his marriage in 1701 his father handed over to him the Bradbourne estate where he rebuilt the house in the style of Sir Christopher Wren.1 Returned for his county as a Tory in 1722, he did not stand in 1727, dying 12 Sept. 1728.
