Biography

Balch’s grandfather and great-grandfather had represented Bridgwater in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. At the general election of 1754 Balch stood on a joint interest with George Bubb Dodington, supported by Administration, and was returned after a contest. In 1761, though again having Dodington’s support, he was defeated, and seems to have made no further attempt to re-enter Parliament.

He died 15 Apr. 1779.
