b. 27 Oct. 1763, in Jamaica, 1st s. of William Henry Lyttelton^†, 1st Baron Lyttelton, by 1st w. Mary, da. and coh. of James Macartney, MP [I], of Longford, co. Longford; half-bro. of Hon. William Henry Lyttelton*. educ. Balliol, Oxf. 1781. unm. suc. fa. as 2nd Baron Lyttelton 14 Sept. 1808.

Biography

Lyttelton succeeded his father (then Lord Westcote) a supporter of Pitt’s administration, in the family seat for Bewdley. In 1787 he had been thought a promising youth, though very shy. He made no mark in the House. In 1791 he was reckoned hostile to the repeal of the Test Act in Scotland. He made way for a friend of the family in 1796. It does not appear when he became insane, but he seems to have been so by 1804; he was reported to be recovering in 1811, but had a final relapse in 1825. He died 12 Nov. 1828.
