Biography

Paulet was returned to Parliament on Pitt’s recommendation, on the interest of the 3rd Viscount Falmouth and, as was expected of him, supported Pitt’s administration, without drawing attention to himself, unless it was he who, as ‘Charles Powlett’ supported Wilberforce’s amendment on 26 Jan. 1795. In 1794 he became heir to a marquessate. In 1796 he was invited to stand for Poole and planned to do so with his brother, but gave it up when, to his disappointment, he received no encouragement from government. Subsequently he became a courtier. He died 29 Nov. 1843.
