Biography

Edward Baron was presumably the son of William Baron, draper, of Hull, appointed executor with his mother Avice of William Baron’s will of 5 Dec. 1484 which was proved on 24 Mar. 1485. Nothing has come to light about Baron’s career beyond his progression in office. His election to the Parliament of 1512 with Thomas Wilkinson accords with the pattern of Hull’s representation by leading merchants and civic officials. In the light of the King’s request that the Parliament of 1515 should bring together again those who had sat in its precursor, the re-election of Wilkinson but not of Baron almost certainly means that Baron was dead or incapacitated, a conclusion borne out by the simultaneous ending of his municipal career.4
