Family and Education
Little is known about Doughty, who may have been a mercer, like his father and his brother Robert. In 1592, when he gave evidence in a dispute between the burgesses of Derby and one William Buckley concerning a grant of church and chantry lands in the town, Doughty said he was aged 77. He lived in the parish of All Saints and was probably buried in the parish church, the present-day cathedral.
