Biography

Sone received livery of his estates in November 1552, and there are several references to his purchases and sales of Suffolk land between that date and his death. His inquisition post mortem lists the manors of Alderton and Wantisden, with property in Orford and 11 other places in the county. By 1559 his local standing was sufficient to secure his return, especially in view of his marriage into the Wingfield family. The preamble to his will, made on the day of his death, 11 Nov. 1561, suggests that by then he was a protestant. The will was not proved until 1575, apparently the date when Sone’s heir, his eldest son John, became 21.2
