b. ?1655, 2nd s. of Sir John Clerke, 1st Bt., of Hitcham, Bucks. and North Weston, Oxon. by Philadelphia, da. and coh. of Sir Edward Carr of Hillingdon, Mdx. educ. Magdalen, Oxf. 31 July 1671, aged 16, fellow 1676-82. m. Catherine, da. of Hon. Henry Bertie, M.P., of Weston-on-the-Green, Oxon. suc. fa. at North Weston 1667.

Offices Held


Clerke, whose family had been at North Weston since the sixteenth century, was returned unopposed for the county as a Tory in February 1715. He died three months later, 2 May, leaving his estate encumbered with £6,000 debts.1
