Biography
The Lechmeres had been settled at Hanley Castle on the Severn, north of Tewkesbury, since before the time of Edward I.3 ‘Honest ingenious’ Anthony Lechmere was classed as a Whig in 1715, when he was re-elected unopposed on his family’s interest, but his only recorded vote was against the septennial bill. In June 1717 he was appointed to office to vacate a seat for his younger brother Nicholas Lechmere. He died of apoplexy 8 Feb. 1720.4
