Biography
Carpenter stood in for Weobley on his own interest against that of Lord Weymouth, and was defeated. He was returned unopposed for Taunton on the interest of his brother-in-law Lord Egremont, whose politics he followed. Hence in the new reign he adhered to Bute, through whom he obtained his earldom.1
He died 9 Mar. 1762.
