b. ?1705, 1st s. of John Penton of Winchester.  educ. New Coll. Oxf. 31 Jan. 1722, aged 16.  m. Feb. 1733, Miss Simondi, da. of Swedish consul at Lisbon by his w. Anne, sis. of Joseph Gulston, 1s.  suc. fa. 1724.

King’s letter carrier 1747-61; recorder of Winchester.


At the general election of 1754 Penton was returned unopposed at Winchester, and was classed by Dupplin as a Government supporter. In 1761 he retired in favour of his son, and also obtained permission to resign to him the sinecure of King’s letter carrier.

Penton died 1 Sept. 1762.
