Biography

After contesting Penryn unsuccessfully on the interest of Lord de Dunstanville in 1812, Hobart was brought in for Mitchell as a friend of government, on the interest of Viscount Falmouth, who so informed Lord Liverpool on 18 Oct. Hobart’s uncle the 4th Earl of Buckinghamshire was a member of Liverpool’s administration. Five weeks later he resolved not to take his option on the seat. Lord Sidmouth reported that he gave it up at his uncle’s wish. The contest at Penryn had cost him at least £1,500. Before he could vacate, his return had to be amended as it had transposed his Christian names, 14 Dec. 1812. He died 1 Feb. 1849.
