The son of a famous Victorian entrepreneur, Jackson was an eminent barrister and a ‘man of great legal learning’. He briefly represented Coventry as a Liberal before being unseated in 1868. He was re-elected in 1874 and died shortly after being appointed as a judge in 1881. An incomplete draft biography was written as part of Josiah Wedgwood’s embryonic History of Parliament project in the 1930s.
