History of Parliament Research

I joined the Trust in 2023 following the completion of my history DPhil thesis at Oxford on Parliament and education reform during the English Commonwealth (1649-53). The focus of my work at the Trust is on the records of the House of Lords, especially those relating to the Journals of the House of Lords such as the Scribble Books and Manuscript Minutes produced by the Clerk of the Parliaments and his assistant.

Research and Publications

My research interests include the political history of the revolutionary period as well as the history of education, especially during the mid-seventeenth century. I am a co-founder and co-convenor of the ‘Oxford Britain in Revolution Seminar’ series. My recent publications include:

-           co-editor of a special edition of the History of Universities journal provisionally entitled ‘Intellectual History in an Institutional Context’ (forthcoming).
