Biography
In April 1409 Lambarde made a quitclaim to Thomas Bonham* of land formerly belonging to his kinsman, Nicholas Lambarde, at Fisherton de la Mere (five miles north of Wilton), Steeple Langford and other places in the valley of the river Wylye. For the past two years and more he had been acting as one of the clerks of the King’s bench, and as such he was commissioned in December 1409 to organize the carriage of the rolls, writs and other records of the court from Westminster to Bristol. At an unknown date during Henry IV’s reign he became clerk to the j.p.s in Wiltshire, and was holding this post when elected by Wilton to Henry V’s first Parliament. He had attended the shire elections at Wilton in 1411 and was to do so again in 1415.3
At the time of his death, which occurred shortly before 15 Oct. 1416, Lambarde was serving both as a coroner in his home county and verderer of Grovely forest.4
