Biography
Browne’s identity has not been established; he was probably related to the Browne family of Betchworth Castle, members of which sat for Gatton in 1589 and 1601. Whoever he was, he owed his returns at Gatton to Lord Burghley, the master of the wards, who had assumed the electoral patronage there during the minority of the Copley heir to the borough lordship.
