Biography
Yates came of an old Sussex family. His father was M.P. for Horsham and he himself married the daughter of a former M.P. for Chichester, for which he was returned on the Tory interest in 1734, after contesting it unsuccessfully at a by-election in 1733. According to the Duke of Richmond, ‘whoring lost Yates his first election’.1 He voted against the Government, and did not stand again. The date of his death is unknown.
